Principal's Message

Welcome to Punggol Primary School.

Punggol Primary School (PPS) is a choice school in Hougang/Sengkang area. A proud recipient of the School Distinction Award, the pinnacle award for schools conferred by MOE, we truly believe in the holistic development of the pupils with focus on igniting the joy of learning. We have been affirmed for our effective programmes in the various domains. In the cognitive domain, our pupils have consistently done well at the PSLE, posting continuous improvement year to year. They have also won numerous awards at the Maths Olympiad and Science Olympiads. A recipient of National Arts Education (Glow Award) from National Arts Council, the school has a vibrant aesthetics programme. Pupils are given exposure to a wide variety of art forms where artistic talents are identified early so that the school can develop the pupils to their fullest potential. Not surprisingly, we have also consistently done well at the SYF Arts Presentation. For our sound systems and processes and good student outcomes, we were recognised by MOE for Best Practices in Teaching and Learning and Student All-Round Development. As recipient of these awards, we have shared our good practices with numerous schools in Singapore.

Being conferred the Niche Status by MOE for Hockey since 2007 for its outstanding performance in the sport at the national level, the school has a robust sports and PE programme. Moving forward, the school leverages on its distinctive strength in this area to inculcate good character via its S.T.A.R.S. ( S ocial and emotional learning and character building T hrough A ctive pa R ticipation in S ports) programme, which is in line with MOE’s direction for every school to develop its own unique Learning for Life Programme.

The school also leverages on another of its strength, namely its green curriculum, to inculcate positive values in the pupils. Through GreenNovation, the school’s Applied Learning Programme, pupils learn about innovation in conservation for a sustainable future. At the same time, the pupils are imbued with values such as Affection and Responsibility. Working in close collaboration with our partners such as National Environment Agency, our pupils have put these values into actions and worked on community projects such as developing learning trails for the public for Punggol Park and Lorong Halus Wetlands. For its active contribution to conservation, the school was awarded 3R Award 2013 (Gold) and The Green Audit Award (Lotus), the highest awards possible conferred by Singapore Environmental Council.

As testimony of the good education we provide, our graduands have gone on to top schools in Singapore and our alumni include doctors, teachers, and entrepreneurs. More importantly, we take pride that the pupils who passed through our hands are equipped with the 21st century competencies that enable them to succeed in their lives. Such is our commitment and this is encapsulated in our school vision “A gracious community of confident and innovative lifelong learners”.

So let me take this opportunity to invite you to join the school and partner us in developing useful citizens of tomorrow who are confident leaders with the heart for others.

Yours in education,
Hanafi Asmore
